Frequently Asked Questions
While they do not have the same powers as the police, security guards are allowed to reasonably enforce the rules of an establishment. Security guards are allowed to remove people from a premises or stop them from entering should the rules not be followed. However, they are not allowed to remove or stop someone entering due to their race, gender, religion, or sexuality.
A security guard can also arrest someone and detain them until the police arrive if they believe that person is committing, or has committed a crime.
As well as this security guards can search people. Before they can search someone, permission must be given by that person. However, you can make being searched a condition of entering a venue, in which case refusal would mean the person cannot enter.
